Flexible Spending Accounts
Flexible Spending Accounts
Flexible spending accounts allow you to put aside money through payroll deductions before federal taxes are withheld from your paycheck to pay for qualified expenses as defined by the IRS. There are two types of FSAs: Health Care and Dependent Care.
Health Care FSA
Over-the-Counter items are now eligible under a health care FSA without restriction. In addition, you can use these funds to pay for eligible expenses that are not traditionally covered by a medical, dental or vision plan. These may include co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles, or certain vision, hearing, or orthodontic costs. In accordance with Health Care Reform, you can include expenses for your children up through the age of 26 (who will not reach the age of 27 by the end of the tax year) in addition to your spouse and any adult tax eligible dependents.
Please note, if you enroll in the BlueSolutions HDHP with a Health Savings Account, you will not be eligible for a Health Care Flexible Spending Account, per IRS guidelines. If you have a HC FSA balance greater than $0 as of 12/31/25 and elect the BlueSolutions HDHP, you will not be eligible to contribute to your Health Savings Account until the end of the HC FSA grace period (3/31/26). As of 4/1/26, you will be eligible to contribute to the Health Savings Account. The maximum contribution is set each year by the IRS.

- Care of dependents (as defined for federal income tax purposes)
